Before starting anything there are some safety tips you should definitely follow.
First of all prepare your workspace, it's good idea to lay newspapers on your workspace, because candle wax is extremely difficult to remove once it's dry.
Secondly, always keep in mind that candle wax is flammable. This means that you will have to keep an eye on the process at all times. If you notice smoke, then quickly turn off the heat.
Now, if your wax really does catch fire, then never pour any water on it. The best way to put out fire is to cover it with something.
If you'll be careful and keep an eye on your wax, then I'm sure you'll do fine.
Paraffin Candle Making Process
The first thing that you'll need is a mold. There are molds that are made for candle making, but if you're just starting out, then you can use heat tolerating and durable food containers. Once you have your mold picked, you should add some vegetable oil, this makes it easier to remove your candle from the mold.
Next step that you need to take is to heat paraffin. Keep in mind that paraffin must not be heated directly in the pot. Fill a pot with water and put it on a stove. Next, step is to place a smaller can, for example a coffee can in the water while water is heating.
Now it's time to melt the wax, first you need to cut the paraffin into pieces and start putting it in the can. You may also want to use candles, that you do not need, just make sure you remove the wick first. Make sure you do not put too much paraffin in the can.
If you are using colors, then now is the time to add them into the can, wait for the wax to be almost melted and the crayons.
Once the wax is melted, it's time to pour it. Keep in mind that the can is very hot, so you need to put something on your hands. Now, remove the can from the water. Find a good place to put your can, because you will have to let it cool down for a minute before you should put it in the mold. Pour the wax slowly and very carefully in the mold.
Now you will have to set the wick in place, to hold the wick straight you have put something on the can, a pencil for example and tie the wick onto it.
Now this is it, usually it takes one full day before candles can be removed, do not remove it even when it might look like the wax has cooled.
This is the basic method to make paraffin candles, if it does not turn out as you were hoping for, do not give up! Candle making is an art and it takes some practice. Soon enough you can start making more complex candles, not just paraffin candles and you can turn your hobby into a business.
